High-Capacity Cooling Without a Ceiling Void

Ceiling-suspended units (also called ceiling-hung or under-ceiling units) are mounted on brackets attached to the structural ceiling or roof structure. The unit body hangs visibly below the ceiling and blows conditioned air horizontally in two directions — achieving a wide throw that covers large floor areas effectively from a single unit. Pipework routes across the exposed ceiling structure, which is entirely normal in industrial, warehouse and sports hall environments where the ceiling structure is deliberately left visible.

Ceiling-suspended units are available in large output capacities — commonly 10kW, 14kW and 18kW — making them the right choice for spaces that a wall-mounted unit simply cannot cool effectively. We assess the room dimensions, ceiling height, heat sources and airflow pattern needed before recommending unit positions and quantities. Correctly positioned ceiling-suspended units can cover very large areas with minimal equipment and good airflow distribution.

  • Mounted on brackets from the structural ceiling
  • Two-way horizontal airflow for large coverage
  • High output capacities — 10kW to 18kW and above
  • No suspended ceiling void required

Ideal for Industrial and Sports Environments

Warehouses, manufacturing areas, gyms, sports halls and large retail units with exposed structural ceilings are the natural home for ceiling-suspended units. The exposed pipework and bracket mounting looks at home in these environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a ceiling-suspended unit and a cassette unit?

A cassette unit sits within a suspended ceiling void with only its decorative panel visible — it requires a ceiling void for installation. A ceiling-suspended unit hangs visibly on brackets below the structural ceiling — no void is needed. Cassette units give a cleaner aesthetic; ceiling-suspended units are practical for exposed-ceiling spaces.

How high can the ceiling be for a ceiling-suspended unit?

Most ceiling-suspended units are designed to operate effectively up to around 4–5 metres ceiling height. In very high spaces (warehouses with 8m+ ceilings), we may recommend units positioned lower on brackets or different unit types. We'll assess the ceiling height and recommend the right solution during the survey.

How are the pipes routed in an exposed-ceiling installation?

In industrial and commercial environments with exposed ceiling structure, refrigerant pipes are typically run along ceiling steels, RSJs or roof trusses and clipped neatly in place. This is standard practice in these environments and looks entirely professional.

Can ceiling-suspended units be used in offices?

Generally, cassette units or wall-mounted units are preferred for office environments where aesthetics are more important. However, ceiling-suspended units can work in high-ceilinged office spaces where other options are not practical — we'll advise on the best option during the survey.
